Reunidas ideias, desenhos, jogos e muita madeiras… as nossas construções sairam à rua. Ao som da flauta mágica do Leo, crianças, pais, outros familiares e amigos empurraram os oito módulos pelo bairro da PRODAC. Celebrámos a construção dos diferentes módulos com partidas dos vários jogos. Despertámos os vizinhos com o barulho das rodinhas iniciando uma nova fase de um projecto em contínuo desenvolvimento… Jogos de Rua saiu à rua pela primeira de muitas vezes!
Once put together ideas, drawings, games and lots of timber… our constructions went out to the street. Accompanied by the sound of Leo‘s magic flute, children, parents and friends pushed the eight playing modules around PRODAC’s neighbourhood. We celebrated the construction of the different modules by playing with all different games. We have awakened the neighbours with the sound of the wheels rolling down the street. A new stage of this project under development has started… Jogos de Rua (Street Games) has come out onto the streets for the first time of many more to come!

Neste primeiro workshop explorámos com crianças do Jardim de Infância da SCML, Prodac e com o Grupo de Jovens do Centro de Promoção Social da PRODAC, diferentes tipologias de jogos e desportos, de actividades ao ar livre.
Durante a parte da manhã os mais pequeninos mostraram quais os jogos e brincadeiras de que mais gostam e da parte da tarde, em conjunto com o Grupo de Jovens percorremos os locais de intervenção espalhados pelo bairro onde fizemos marcações de possíveis jogos e mobiliário urbano a incorporar em ‘Jogos de Rua’.
Desta forma, crianças, jovens, adultos do centro e residentes locais começaram a pensar diferentes formas de utilizar os vários espaços sub-aproveitados no bairro da PRODAC.
On this first workshop infants from SCML’s Nursery School and children from the Centre’s Youth Group started exploring different typologies of games, sports and other outdoor activities.
Throughout the morning, the tiny ones have shown us which are their favourite games and activities, whilst in the afternoon we were joined by the group of teenagers and went around the different spots in the neighbourhood. The locations previously chosen as potential spaces for small interventions were used as scenarios for floor markings of different games and activities as well as urban furniture that appears to be needed in PRODAC.
With this first activity, children, youth and adults from the centre, along with local residents have started thinking about different ways in which the outdoor spaces in their local neighbourhood can be used.

Each child started by drawing the portrait of his/her next door friend so that we could all get to know each other.

Cada criança teve que reproduzir, em mímica, o seu jogo/desporto preferido para as restantes crianças adivinharem.
Foi notório que andar ao pé coxinho, correr e jogar futebol foram as actividades mais frequentemente representadas. Todas elas ao ar livre, partilhadas com os amigos e/ou irmãos. Tanto raparigas como rapazes escolheram, na maioria estas três actividades.
Each child had to represent, in mime, their favourite game/sport so that all other children could guess.
It was noticeable that limping, running and playing football were the most popular activities. All three would be played outside with friends or siblings. Both boys and girls chose one of those three activities more often.

Tendo em conta a idade, muitas das crinças tiveram dificuldade em distinguir que tipo de jogo se inseria em cada uma das diferentes tipologias.
On the second half of the morning, in groups, the chidlren represented, through drawings, different types of games and sports’ typologies.

Considering the children’s age group, many struggled to distinguish between the different typologies not quite knowing where each drawing should fit.

Cada criança teve que explicar quais as suas rotinas diárias. O que faz ao acordar, qual o jogo preferido enquanto está na escola e o que faz quando sai da escola. A maioria das crianças vê desenhos animados logo de manhã, enquanto toma o pequeno-almoço, gosta de andar de trotinete ou de triciclo e não tem actividades extra-curriculares passando a maior parte do tempo livre em casa a ver televisão.
Each child had to explain what their daily routines are. What they do when they wake up, their favourite games when they are at school and what they do after school. Most children watch cartoons whilst having breakfast, enjoys going around the playground with the tricycle or the moped and most don’t have any after-school activities so they spend most of their free time at home watching television.

As crianças de diferentes idades (jovens e pequeninos) foram dividos em três grupos. Cada grupo ficou responsável por três locais diferentes ao longo do percurso e teve que pensar e desenhar com giz diferentes jogos, mobiliários urbano e actividades que poderiam possivelmente vir a ocupar os espaços sub-aproveitados do bairro da PRODAC.
The children of different ages (teenagers and little children) were divided into three groups. Each group was in-charged of three different locations along the route and had to think about and draw with chalk different games, street furniture and other activities that could possible inhabit those spaces and bring some life to those misused empty spaces around PRODAC.

No fim da tarde, reunimos as cerca de 50 crianças e voltámos a percorrer o bairro. Cada grupo teve que apresentar e justificar os jogos escolhidos, métodos de construção possíveis e quais as peças de mobiliário urbano que poderiam beneficiar os espaços onde as marcações foram feitas. Aos poucos, os residentes locais, curiosos, iam começando a fazer perguntas sobre o projecto.
At the end of the afternoon, all fifty children came together and we walked around the neighbourhood once more. Each group had to present and justify the games and activities chosen for those particular places, as well as the possible construction methods and urban furniture that could help improving those misused spaces. The neighbours started approaching the children, curious to find out more about the project.
